Privacy Policy for GMILCS

  1. GMILCS, Inc. takes the privacy and security of the Personal Identifiable Information we maintain seriously. We have many technical, physical and operational safeguards in place to secure your personal information and to help prevent unauthorized access or distribution of the data our member libraries have entrusted to us.

  2. GMILCS is a nonprofit consortium of public and academic libraries in New Hampshire, sharing an integrated system, sharing resources and sharing experience. By sharing, we offer more to the communities we serve.

    The GMILCS consortium serves the Amherst Town Library, Bedford Public Library Derry Public Library, Goffstown Public Library, Hooksett Public Library, Manchester City Library, Merrimack Public Library, Nesmith Library in Windham, Kelley Library in Salem, Rodgers Memorial Library in Hudson, Wadleigh Memorial Library in Milford and the Danforth and Teti Libraries of New England College.

    3. GMILCS maintains the shared database.

  3. Personal information is any piece of information that relates to a living, identifiable person. GMILCS stores only personal information that is directly related to your use of library services. That may include name, address, phone number, email address and possibly your birthdate or a photo.

  4. GMILCS operates within the New Hampshire right to privacy act, RSA 359-C and the Library User Records: Confidentiality RSA 201-D:11.

  5. Only personal information that is necessary for the delivery of library services will be collected unless authorized by you. For example, GMILCS stores personal information electronically that enables the member libraries to:
    • Issue library cards
    • Identify materials on loan
    • Identify overdue materials and notify you about overdues
    • Maintain records of outstanding fines and lost materials

  1. GMILCS will not share your personal information except with the authorized vendors who provide online library services or to comply with a court ordered subpoena or warrant.

  2. GMILCS retains your personal information only as long as necessary for the delivery of library services, such as:
    • Information necessary to issue a library card
    • Items on loan—only until all items are returned
    • Patron’s borrowing history—only if you enable this feature
    • Accounts with outstanding balances
    • Accounts history for one year

  1. You have a right to access your personal information, correct any inaccuracies and enable or disable reading history.
    • You may log into your account via the online catalog or you may contact your library.
    • Neither GMILCS nor library staff have access to your password.
    • Your reading preferences and habits are confidential. GMILCS staff cannot share this information per NH RSA 201-D:11.

  1. GMILCS maintains an encrypted site for the online catalog.

  2. Information automatically collected and stored for statistical purposes only:
    • The internet domain and IP address from which access to the online catalog is gained
    • The type of browser and operating system used to access the catalog
    • The date and time of access
    • The pages visited
    • The page from which you accessed the online catalog
    • The data that is collected is not connected to any personal information.

  1. The GMILCS online catalog uses cookies to improve your experience using the catalog, while you are using it. An example is remembering your login information as you change between databases. This cookie expires in an hour.

  2. The GMILCS online catalog contains links to other sites to which the GMILCS privacy policy does not apply.
